All of the performances are done on a stage measuring 15’x 23’.
This does not mean that the fights are not suitable for stages that are
smaller or larger. I have taken this into consideration and formed the
fight sequences accordingly.
The Swordplay for Shakespeare video series makes studying the fight choreography
like memorizing lines.
Studying dialogue and character is time consuming, and frustration can
set in when the actor is given a chore such as staging his own fight. Generally
the actors know nothing about sword play, but they do know that in Shakespeare’s
plays it is an important part. One that if done poorly, unsafe or not at
all, can take the audience right out of the show and what you are trying
to accomplish. If done well, however, it will add considerably to the overall
performance.
Swordplay for Shakespeare takes that burden away from the actor. It brings
the fight choreography and training to you. The video has no drawn out
how to sword fight descriptions that are hard to follow and can sometimes
be even more time consuming and frustrating than doing it yourself. The
actor gets just the information he/she will need for that particular fight.
What’s more, you will have this video forever and even though new
actors will take your stage every time you perform The Master’s classics,
you will always have the same quality fights, the simplest way of learning
them as well as safe and moving choreography.
